MAG-24 supports Kalaheo High School Navy Junior ROTC Basic Cadet Training camp
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION KĀNE‘OHE BAY, Hawai’i, Sept. 11, 2026 — Kalāheo Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps has a long history of partnering with Marine Corps Base Hawai’i to introduce first-year cadets to United States Navy and Marine Corps principles. Marine Aircraft Group 24 worked closely with MCBH to coordinate guided tours, static displays and military instruction. NJROTC is an elective program emphasizing self-discipline, character development and leadership. [parallax media="2"; height="600";][/parallax] The basic cadet training camp provided orientation training to new cadets while allowing senior cadets to showcase their operational planning and small-unit leadership skills by supervising movements between stations.

Training began with guided tours of the MCAS air traffic control tower and radar room. Cadets then moved to the flight line to learn about Marine Corps aircraft and equipment, including the KC-130J and MV-22B Osprey. In addition to aircraft displays, cadets learned about aviation ground support capabilities. At each station, Marines engaged with cadets, explaining their occupational specialties, answering questions and offering valuable insights into military life. Marines demonstrated the utility oftactical water purification systems, expeditionary solar charging stations, and heavy machinery like the P-19R Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Vehicle. Cadets were introduced to critical expeditionary combat functions, including forward arming and refueling point operations, explosive ordnance disposal, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense systems.
Cadets also received remarks from MAG-24 senior enlisted leadership, participated in simulated marksmanship training, and attended military and career orientation sessions. Senior cadets gained practical experience leading their peers throughout the event.

Kalaheo students left this year’s basic cadet training camp with a deeper knowledge of military life and aviation capabilities. Through collaborative programs and opportunities, MAG-24 and MCBH continue to support cadets in their journey to build resilience, embrace responsibility and answer the call of leadership.
