Governor Abbott, TWC Announce Over $81,000 Job Training Grant To El Paso Community College

AUSTIN ⎯ Governor Greg Abbott today announced a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant award totaling $81,867 to El Paso Community College in partnership with Novipax Buyer LLC. Through this grant, El Paso Community College will provide customized training for 40 new and current workers at Novipax for high-demand careers in manufacturing.

“This Skills Development Fund grant will prepare 40 new and current workers for high-demand manufacturing careers,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas invests in the skilled workforce our employers need and our people deserve. Partnerships between community colleges and private industry produce the results that expand opportunity and secure high-wage jobs for Texans across the state.”

“This $81,867 investment underscores our commitment to providing Texas employers with the innovative, industry-specific training solutions they need to grow their business,” said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza. “The collaboration between El Paso Community College and Novipax highlights the power of the Skills Development Fund to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring the regional manufacturing workforce is prepared to fill critical in-demand jobs, both now and in the future.”

Earlier today, Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III presented the award to representatives from El Paso Community College, Novipax, and other local partners during a ceremony held at El Paso Community College.

SDF is the state's workforce training grant program to help businesses upskill their new or incumbent workforce. In partnership with the public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC collaborates to provide customized, innovative training to Texas businesses of all sizes.

The SDF grant program has provided training opportunities in partnership with more than 5,000 employers to upgrade or support the creation of over 446,000 jobs throughout Texas since the program's inception in 1996.
